Ron English not only coaches football players -- he finds them.

The new University of Louisville defensive coordinator was credited this spring with spotting Daniel Brown, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety out of Douglass High School in Atlanta, and signing him as a 2008 recruit.

Somehow, Brown managed to play his senior season under the national radar, but he has been clocked in 4.5 for the 40 and bench presses 315 pounds -- an intriguing combination of speed and strength.

Another recent Cardinal recruit, TE Cameron Graham of El Camino Community College in California, was similarly short on hype and stats but long on physical ability. Used mostly as a blocker on a team with several Division I signees among its receiving corps, Graham caught just four passes in five games. Louisville was intrigued by his speed (4.6) as a 6-foot-4, 250-pounder.

Both players will be eligible this season.
