Never underestimate the power of a stopwatch.

Although running back/defensive back Ezedrick (Zed) Evans of Seagoville High School in suburban Dallas, Texas, hadn't been ranked by any of the major recruiting services, or even noticed much outside of his own prep conference, the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder burst into prominence -- literally -- at a Nike Camp in his hometown when he reeled off a 4.41 40.

Suddenly, schools like Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech were interested, but Evans wound up giving his oral commitment to the University of Louisville om June 27. He'll join another speedy Texan, Jacaues Caldwell of Garland, in the Class of 2009.

It also did hurt Evans' college chances that he apparently experienced a growth spurt over the last year. In 2007, he was listed as 5-8, 170.

"They said I looked bigger in person," Evans told Cardinalsports.com after making his official visit to Louisville.

Evans is projected to play defense at Louisville.
