There will be no bobblehead dolls this football season for Michael Bush and Brian Brohm, but you might want to check out their website when it debuts on July 1. The address is www.derbycityduo.com, and it's all about the Heisman Trophy.

"We think we have two guys who are legitimate candidates," University of Louisville sports information director Rocco Gasparro told the Louisville Courier-Journal recently, "and we're going to treat them both that way."

The Louisville Cardinals tried the bobblehead route with quarterback Dave Ragone a few years ago, but it didn't fly. This year might be different.

Not that either Bush or Brohm are frontrunners, even at their positions, but they're close. One respected preseason football mag, Lindy's, has Brohm as the fifth-rated quarterback and Bush at No. 4 among running backs. Both are also on the Maxwell Trophy watch list.

Moreover, each has a "hook" that sets him apart from other contenders. With Brohm, who threw for 2,883 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2005, it is his determined struggle back from a season-ending knee injury -- a struggle already chronicled by ESPN.com and CNNSI.com. Bush (1,143 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in 2005) is a physical freak who possesses startling speed for a 6-4, 250-pounder.

Bush and Brohm also have a relatively easy schedule, with Miami and West Virginia the chief obstacles to a BCS bowl season. Their biggest obstacles to Heismanhood might be each other -- should fortune place the two Cardinals within range of the individual spotlight, the votes for them will probably be split.

"We've got a good plan and a good sports information department to handle these things," Louisville coach Bobby Petrino told the Courier-Journal.

This spring, some fans printed up and began selling Bush/Brohm '06" T-shirts that used the logo from George W. Bush's last presidential campaign. The NCAA stepped in and reminded them that the use of athletes' names or images in a commercial venture would be a rule violation.

And you don't win the Heisman Trophy on probation.

"You win it," said Petrino, "on the football field."
