Ex-LSU wide receiver Early Doucet is a 6-foot, 207-pounder who will be a selection in April's NFL draft. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, which isn't exactly blazing when you consider what some others in this draft have been timed at. Despite the lack of outstanding timed speed, Doucet is a very good athlete who carries his frame well, displays a nice burst, and demonstrates excellent vision after the catch.

Beyond that, Doucet is also considered a hard worker and has great hands, something that too often seems to fly under the radar despite its importance. In addition, he's been a great blocker throughout his college football career. Speaking of his LSU career . . .

2004: Pulled in 18 balls for 257 yards and two touchdowns.
2005: Caught 26 passes for 389 yards and five touchdowns.
2006: Nabbed 59 receptions for 772 yards and eight touchdowns.
2007: Finished with 57 grabs for 525 yards and five touchdowns.

Draft prediction: Doucet was widely considered a high first-round pick entering last season. But injuries during the season coupled with a recent hamstring injury suffered during Senior Bowl week has him sidelined for the combine.

Thus, pro executives are worried about his durability, and that has derailed the Doucet Express, so to speak. Beyond that, he has indicated some trouble beating jams, which has many thinking Doucet will be a second- or third-rounder.

Still, this is a player who was a top recruit coming out of high school. Further, he has played well when healthy and possesses the ability to return punts and kicks. If Doucet can somehow boost his 40 time, teams may just bring him back into first-round consideration.
