After the crystal football returned to Baton Rouge and Les Miles rejected the overtures from Michigan, the most pressing question for LSU was: Can the Tigers repeat? No team has won back-to-back BCS championships in the 10-year existence of the system. LSU is the first school to win two BCS titles, so why can't it be the first to win consecutive championships? Here are the three biggest reasons.

1. Quarterback - LSU lost stars all over the field, but it has a pipeline of talent to compensate for those departures. The graduation of Matt Flynn and dismissal of Ryan Perrilloux creates a massive question mark for the Tigers at quarterback. Andrew Hatch is the only quarterback on the roster who took a snap last season, but he amassed only 9 passing yards. LSU will rely on its defense and the running game to win, but somewhere down the line, the quarterback is going to have to make plays for the Tigers.

2. Schedule - LSU's non-conference schedule is easily navigable, but the SEC slate is as brutal as ever. Three of the first four conference games are on the road, starting at Auburn and then going to Florida and South Carolina. After returning from South Carolina, LSU has to host defending Sugar Bowl champion Georgia, which returns almost its entire team.

3. Luck - Throughout the college football season, if you're going to win, you have to be a little lucky. Miles likes to take chances. Last season, LSU needed multiple fourth-down conversions to beat Florida and then decided to throw a pass to the end zone to beat Auburn when a field goal would have done the trick. All those moves were successful, but the Tigers still needed West Virginia to lose to 4-7 Pittsburgh at home on the final weekend of the season to get into the title game.

LSU has tremendous talent and will play an exciting brand of football that will keep its fans on the edge of their seats this season. Unfortunately, if those fans are expecting a championship, they may be disappointed. Of course, with the Gambler calling the shots, it might not be smart to bet against them.
