Coach Ralph Fridgeon’s Maryland Terrapins got verbal commitments from two notable in-state players on Saturday.

Flower High (Springdale) outside linebacker Lorne Goree (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) was credited with 153 tackles and three interceptions last season. He chose College Park over Syracuse, West Virginia, Akron, Ohio and Illinois. James Franklin is the primary.

DeMatha High (Hyattsville) offensive tackle Pete DeSouza (6-7, 305) also gave his solid verbal, choosing the Terps over Syracuse, Akron and Delaware.

COMMENTARY: With this spike, the tally on the ’09 class is now at seven commitments. Both DeSouza and Goree are three-star players, and five of the overall seven are three-star recruits. Solid job by Fridgeon and staff.
