Northwest High (Germantown, Md.) outside linebacker Marcus Whitfield gave his verbal pledge to Maryland on Sunday for the ’09 class.

According to Rivals, the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder chose College Park over West Virginia.

COMMENTARY: Whitfield becomes the fourth linebacker taken by the Terrapins for the class, as he follows Ryan Donohue, Lorne Goree and Bradley Johnson. Apparently this is a critical need position for coach Ralph Fridgeon.
