In their very last home game played in the Orange Bowl, the Miami Hurricanes were completely annihilated by the 19th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers, 48-0, Saturday night. Cav quarterback Jameel Sewell rushed for one touchdown and passed for another, running back Mikell Simpson had two rushing scores, and Keith Payne rushed for one in the biggest shutout in Orange Bowl history.

Chris Long and the Cavalier defense held the 'Canes to a paltry 94 passing yards and the same in rushing yards in this shutout, and picked off quarterback Kyle Wright three times and recovered two fumbles.

Commentary: How humiliating must it be for the five-time National Champion Miami Hurricanes to lay a monstrous egg in their last home game in the historic Orange Bowl in front of their championship-ring-wearing elders? The 'Canes looked either confused or unmotivated the entire game, which is tragic considering one would think the team would give their all one last time in the historic 'O.B.' before moving on to the greener pastures of Pro Player Stadium.

On the other hand, fans of the Cardiac Cavs didn't have to take their nitroglycerin this time to get them through the game. After several close wins that drew skepticism about the true strength of the team from some and made hearts stop in others, Virginia asserted itself and showed they are a team to take seriously in the ACC's Coastal Division race. If the Cavaliers play in this fashion against Virginia Tech, the Hokies will have a fight on their hands in Charlottesville for the regular season finale.
