Tight end Cory White of Jacksonville, Fla., has given his oral commitment to Miami for the 2009 recruiting class. Believed to have the ability to play tight end or left tackle, the Fleming Island High School standout is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.75 seconds.

"Miami was the first BCS school to pull the trigger on him," Fleming offensive coordinator Derrick Chipoletti said. "Even if he doesn't play tight end, they believe they can put the weight on him and make him a left tackle. He's got the skills to do either."

The Hurricanes beat out Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Troy and Georgia Tech.

COMMENTARY: Although White is currently unrated by Rivals, he is the sixth commitment for the 2009 recruiting class. Interestingly, he is the second tight end to commit for that year. The first, Billy Sanders, of Phoenix, Ariz., gave his verbal in early March.
