Ridge High (Davenport, Fla.) running back Mike James committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday for the ’09 class.

The 5-foot-11, 211-pounder, whom Rivals rates as a four-star player and the 18th-best running back in the nation, chose Coral Gables over numerous schools, including South Florida, Purdue, Alabama, Illinois and Louisville. Defensive line coach Clint Hurtt was the primary on James.

COMMENTARY: James becomes the second highly touted backfield star Miami has taken for this class, as he follows five-star prospect Bryce Brown, Rivals’ second-ranked runner in the nation. In addition to James and Brown, the class also includes three tight ends and a dual-threat quarterback, which could be indicative of future emphasis on a high-quality ground game by coach Randy Shannon and staff.
