Hurricanes wrap up next-to-last spring practice

The Miami Hurricanes continued to make progress along the offensive line, as several newcomers took the field on the second team.

Dave Howell saw action at left tackle, John Rochford at left guard, Chris Napoli at center, Jonathan St. Pierre at right guard and Anthony Wollschlager at right tackle. Guard Derrick Morse and center Alex Pou were sidelined due to injury are not expected to practice the rest of the spring.

The starting offensive line featured Rashad Butler at left tackle, Tyler McMeans at left guard, Tyrone Byrd at center, Andrew Bain at right guard and Cyrim Wimbs at right tackle.

Head coach Larry Coker stated that the first-team offense had a good day of practice. "It was a much better day for the offense today, especially the first team, which was more efficient. We really did some good things in situational things."

Defensive end Javon Nanton underwent a shoulder procedure to clean loose bodies which will keep him out the rest of the spring. Willie Williams was excused from practice, but is expected back at the next session.

The Hurricanes will take Thursday off and practice again at 3:20 pm on Friday at their Coral Gables campus facility. The annual spring game will be held Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, with a slated noon starting-time.
