The Miami Hurricanes overcame a fleeting first half deficit as they quieted the faithful in Winston-Salem, NC with a score of 47-17 over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Canes were led by Kyle Wright, who threw for a career-high and tied a school record with 5 touchdown passes.

The game began with a feisty effort from Wake Forest. On their first drive, they were able to get a long field goal to open the scoring. Miami answered with a couple of Charlie Jones touchdown runs, a 1 yard plunge and an impressive 32 yard romp. The Demon Deacons responded in the second quarter with a quick 71 yard touchdown pass on a reverse from wide receiver Nate Morton to WR Chris Davis. On their next drive, the heralded Chris Barclay - who finished with over 4,000 rushing yards for his career in this contest - willed his way through the field, culminating in a 7 yard scamper into the end zone to make it 17-14 with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter.

The Hurricanes seemed to get the wake up call, as they impressively rang up 3 TDs through the air (64 yards to Sinorice Moss, 10 yards to Darnell Jenkins after a Kelly Jennings interception, and 15 yards to Ryan Moore after a Barclay fumble) before intermission. Miami finished the domination in the third quarter when Wright connected with Lance Leggett for a 76 yard touchdown strike and Greg Olsen in the back of the endzone for a 10 yard TD following another fumble by Chris Barclay.

The fourth quarter was free of scoring and gave the coaches a valuable opportunity to evaluate the backups. Head coach Larry Coker notched his 52nd win at UM to tie Jimmy Johnson with the fourth-most victories for the program. Miami (8-1) got an additional boost in their national championship hopes when the Alabama Crimson Tide lost at home to the LSU Tigers 16-13 in overtime. Sitting securely at #3 in the polls, the Canes will prepare for Georgia Tech (6-3) next Saturday at the Orange Bowl. The Yellowjackets lost at Virginia yesterday by a final margin of 27-17.
