As seems to be the weekly norm, head coach Rich Rodriguez spent half of his press conference deflecting questions from a Michigan media begging to see someone other than Steven Threet or Nick Sheridan take snaps (most notably, freshman quarterback Justin Feagin).

Commentary: Rodriguez said three weeks ago that Feagin might be ready to take snaps in a live game. Then he was caught warming up on the sidelines at Penn State. He never actually got in, though, as Rodriguez didn't think it was the right situation. This week, Rodriguez basically said that Feagin isn't ready.

Threet has shown signs, but he has been incredibly underwhelming overall. It's fair to say he's not the long-term answer under center at Michigan.

Feagin, on the other hand, is an enigma. The most frustrating thing about Rodriguez's offense is that it is not exactly nuclear fusion, which makes one wonder why he doesn't think Feagin is ready yet. The offense consists of fairly basic routes, reading one particular player pre-snap (defensive end) and being able to run forward in a coherent fashion.

Fan Pulse: Johnny Michigan Fan would like to see something that at least looks like progress.

What to Watch For: Michigan gets Purdue this weekend in West Lafayette. Similarly disappointing are the Boilers, who returned 10 starters on offense and a coach thirsty for one final go-around. Yet they too are 2-6, dead in the water, and reverting back to the days where playing Purdue meant winning in a blowout. Purdue passer Curtis Painter has talent, but the Boilers are too weak to compete. All in all, this is a pretty ugly matchup.

Injury Report: RB Sam McGuffie is questionable this week with a mild concussion. He’s been knocked around pretty good these last few weeks and it seems to be taking its toll. Threet (elbow) is probable. Emerging LB Jonas Mouton (hamstring) is also probable. Safety Mike Williams (concussion) is questionable.
