Trev Alberts, Will Shields, and Grant Wistrom will appear on the induction ballot for the 2008 College Football Hall of Fame.

Alberts was a Butkus Award winning linebacker in 1993 and a first team All-American. He was instrumental in Nebraska's Big Eight championship and Orange Bowl appearance. He went on to a brief NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts. He currently is a columnist for CSTV.

Shields was an Outland Trophy winning offensive guard in 1992 and first-team All-American. He went on to a very successful 14-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs and was a 12-time Pro Bowler. Shields retired in April 2007.

Wistrom, a defensive end, earned first team All-American honors twice (1996 and 1997), twice was Big XII Player of the Year, won the Lombardi Award in 1997 and enjoyed three National titles during his career. He was a nine-year NFL veteran, playing with the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. Wistrom established the Grant Wistrom Foundation in 2002, a charity for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The class of 2008 will be announced May 1, and the induction ceremony will commence December 9. Enshrinement will take place sometime during the summer of 2009.

Commentary: Prior to this, Nebraska boasts 19 inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame, 13 players and six coaches, one of whom is current athletic director Tom Osborne. Regardless of the lack of success in recent years, a mark of an elite college football program is numerous inductees, and Nebraska clearly fits the bill.
