Shawn Bodtmann, an outside linebacker from West Scranton High School in Pennsylvania, gave a solid verbal to Nebraska last Thursday.

“Then when he got around the team, he really hit it off with current players at Nebraska," said West Scranton coach Michael DeAntona. "He was really impressed with how current players at Nebraska talked about (head coach) Bo Pelini and the coaching staff, and that was important to him. It felt like a family, and finding a family atmosphere was really important to Shawn."

According to Rivals, the 6-foot, 205-pounder maxes out at 275 pounds on the bench and 450 pounds on the squat. He runs the 40 in 4.58 seconds.

The second commitment for the 2009 recruiting season, the Husker coaching staff wants Bodtmann to play the will position.

Schools that Nebraska beat out include Pitt, Syracuse, Army, Boston College, Duke, Maryland and Louisville. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini and linebackers coach Mike Ekeler were the primary recruiters.

COMMENTARY: The 2009 recruiting class is well underway now for Nebraska on the defensive side of the ball. No offensive prospects at the moment, but that obviously will change over the next few months.
