Dayton High (Texas) quarterback Cody Green gave his verbal to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday for the 2009 class.

“Coach Watson and Coach Ek, there’s not enough words I can say about those two guys, especially Coach Watson,” the four-star gunslinger said. “He helped me out a lot. I’ll be 17 when I get (to Nebraska) and I need a parent figure more than a coach going into college. I’m really, really comfortable with Coach Watson up there.”

Rated as the nation’s No. 10 dual-threat QB by Rivals, Green completed over 61 percent of his 171 passes for 1,429 yards with 19 touchdowns against 10 picks last year. As a runner, he had 95 carries for 689 yards and four touchdowns.

Green picked Nebraska over several schools, including Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Boston College, Miami, Mississippi State and Houston. Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and linebackers coach Mike Ekeler are credited as the co-primaries.

COMMENTARY: This is one heck of a get by the Huskers, as Green commits several months after highly rated quarterback Blaine Gabbert de-committed from Nebraska and opted for Missouri. Furthermore, Green makes the third Texan to commit to the program, so it seems coach Bo Pelini’s plan to invade the Lone Star State and pilfer top talent from the Texas schools is working. The Huskers now have six commitments for the ’09 class.
