Nebraska place kicker Jordan Congdon sure knows how to make an impression. In last year's season opener, and Congdon's Husker debut, he nailed four field goals in four attempts in helping Big Red to a 25-7 victory over Maine. Although he did miss a PAT in that contest, it would be the only one he would fail to convert all year. From there, Congdon went on to enjoy a spectacular freshman campaign, one which he expects to build upon in 2006.

The numbers Congdon put up in 2005 would be considered excellent for any kicker, let alone a freshman. He ended the year 19-23 in field goal attempts, good for a .826 percentage. Add to that 31 PAT's against just one miss, and you have the makings of a very accurate kicker. In fact, Congdon's field goal percentage was tops among all freshmen nationally, and was also best in the Big 12. In addition, he tied for 16th among all kickers with a 1.58 field goals per game average. Congdon also found his way into the Nebraska Cornhuskers' record book by hitting those 19 field goals, breaking Kris Brown's old season high mark of 18.

It might seem impossible to improve upon such a positive effort, but that is exactly what Congdon is aiming for in 2006. Although he was 3-3 in attempts of 40 yards or longer last year, Congdon spent a good part of spring ball trying to improve his distance. While he had only one attempt in the annual spring game (37 yard FG missed), the staff was encouraged by his early distance throughout the practices leading up to the game. The accuracy he displayed in 2005 was also evident throughout most of the spring session as well.

As Nebraska looks to replace departing punter Sam Koch this season, the placekicking game continues to ride confidently on the right foot of Jordan Congdon. And if last year was any indication, this sophomore is going to continue to make impressions in Lincoln for many more games to come.
