If the Nebraska Cornhuskers get dominated by the Trojans of USC, the Trojans of the Troy State University variety is almost an ideal get-well game. On the other hand, if the Big Red leaves the Los Angeles Coliseum with an impressive triumph, Troy will still probably not be able to take advantage of what could be a letdown game for the 'Huskers on September 23rd.

Why? Because when Troy comes to town for the contest on the 23rd, they should be considerably road weary. Before heading to Lincoln, they will be at Florida State on September 9th and at Georgia Tech on the 16th. The Troy, Alabama based program will open the season with a home contest versus Alabama State.

If he is able to stay healthy through treacherous games against the Seminoles and the Yellow Jackets, junior quarterback Omar Haugabook will likely get the start for Troy. Haugabook is a transfer from Dodge City Community College in Kansas, where he threw for nearly 2,500 yards with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2005. At an April scrimmage in Troy, Haugabook completed 27 passes for just over 275 yards and three touchdowns. Two of Haugabook's touchdown throws were caught by junior wide receiver Gary Banks. Banks had 25 receptions, two of which went for touchdowns for Troy last season.

The Trojans of Troy, Alabama finished with a 4-7 record last season including defeats to Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Middle Tennessee. The Nebraska Cornhuskers lead the all-time series against Troy, 3-0, with the latest victory coming in 2003 (30-0 in Lincoln). A win over Troy should get the 'Huskers ready for the Big 12 opener against Kansas at Memorial Stadium on September 30th.
