Big Red can start another winning streak against Kansas and earn an important Big 12 North victory at the same time when the Jayhawks visit Lincoln on September 30th. It may not come easy, but a triumph against Kansas could be vital for Nebraska and it should happen.

Head coach Mark Mangino could introduce red-shirt freshman quarterback Kerry Meier to the fans in Memorial Stadium. Meier is a 6-foot 3-inch athlete who was a star at Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Kansas. At the Blue-White spring game, Meier completed 16 passes, three of which went for touchdowns. It's safe to assume that the Nebraska Cornhuskers will not exactly roll out the welcome mat for the young QB this fall. It's somewhat easy to envision the 'Huskers rattling Meier as they look to exact some revenge for what happened last year. If Meier can get into a rhythm, one receiver to keep an eye on is senior Brian Murph, who caught 33 passes for the Jayhawks in 2005. If Kansas can get a ground game going, Jon Cornish may be the one gobbling up the yards. Cornish, a red-shirt senior, ran for 107 yards and a touchdown against Nebraska last fall.

On the defensive side, the Kansas Jayhawks lost some talent, including Nick Reid, the 2005 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, but there is still ample skill on that side of the ball. Zac Taylor and company better be ready to capitalize on turnovers and three-and-out series by the opposition.

All told, look for the Nebraska to start Big 12 play the right way, with a victory of 10 to 16 points.
