Kerry Collins lived up to his gun slinger reputation, but the Houston Texans edged the Oakland Raiders 19-17. Collins threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns on 14 of 18 passes, but also threw two interceptions. Both of his touchdowns went to WR Doug Gabriel. Lamont Jordan showed a little bit of the talent that made him a hot commodity during the offseason. He rushed for 62 yards on nine carries. Randy Moss had a fairly quiet night. He caught two passes for 23 yards.

The Houston Texans starters were steady and efficient in limited action. David Carr was 6 of 8 for 43 yards and a touchdown. Domanick Davis rushed for 22 yards on six carries and Andre Johnson added three receptions for 22 yards. Cornerback Marcus Coleman snagged an interception but was somehow run down and tackled hard by behemoth offensive tackle Robert Gallery.
