Kyle Orton took yet another step towards earning the starters job as the Chicago Bears defeated the Buffalo Bills 16-12. It wasn't so much what Orton did as what current starter Chad Hutchinson didn't do. Hutchinson was unable to complete passes to his teammates and was unable to protect the ball. Orton was 7 of 11 for 74 yards and a touchdown. Hutchinson ended up 3 of 14 for 33 yards and threw a pair of interceptions. One of Hutchinson's interceptions was taken to the house by Buffalo Bills cornerback Nate Clements.

The Buffalo Bills were stingy on defense and efficient on offense. Both of the Bears' touchdowns came in the second half, after the Bills' starters had left the field. On offense, J.P. Losman threw for 82 yards on 9 of 18 passing. Willis McGahee added 61 yards on 21 carries.
