Jake Delhomme outdueled Trent Dilfer as the Carolina Panthers defeated the Cleveland Browns 23-20. The game was closely contested until the very end.

Delhomme managed the game well, ending up with 122 yards and one touchdown on 9 of 13 passing. DeShaun Foster added 56 yards on nine carries. Steve Smith netted a 30-yard touchdown catch and finished with three receptions for 59 yards. On defense, Dan Morgan came away with an interception. Chris Weinke came in to relieve Delhomme and led the team on a game winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

Trent Dilfer and the Cleveland Browns hung around but could not pull off the victory. Dilfer was 15 of 23 for 168 yards but had one interception. Reuben Droughns and William Green combined for 58 yards on 17 carries. Droughns also had a 34 yard reception.
