The Vikings bolstered their defense by signing free agent DT Ellis Wyms and LB Dallas Sartz, and kept WR Robert Ferguson with a one-year deal Tuesday.

Wyms comes over from Seattle, and will add some depth behind Pro Bowl tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams. Sartz was cut by Washington in training camp last season, and will likely be used primarily on special teams. Ferguson caught 32 passes for 391 yards and a touchdown in his first season in Minnesota.

Commentary: The Williams' combination is arguably the best tandem in the league, and no one available on the market could replace either one if he was to get hurt, but Wyms does provide some value for the league's top-ranked run defense. With the Vikings pinning most of their 2008 off-season hopes on WR Bernard Berrian, Ferguson's signing won't grab headlines, but he is a steady veteran presence for the younger receivers like Sidney Rice and Bobby Wade.

Fantasy Football Impact: Any Minnesota player not named Adrian can't be counted on for much in terms of Fantasy Football, so don't expect Ferguson to produce any more than he did in 2007. His numbers are more likely to fall than anything else.
