Despite a low-scoring three quarters, the Dallas Cowboys managed to beat the Houston Texans 21-9. The first couple of drives for both teams resulted in a punt until Terence Newman made an interception in the end zone on a pass intended for Andre Johnson to begin the second quarter. Soon after, Dallas broke the scoring silence when Julius Jones recorded a 21-yard touchdown run to cap a 7-play 80-yard drive. On this drive, Bledsoe was solid completing a perfect 5 of 5 attempts. Jones would finish the game with 10 attempts for 50-yards and Bledsoe was 11-of-18 for 113 yards and no turnovers.

Dallas used Drew Bledsoe and the majority of the first-team offense until midway through the third quarter. Houston, on the other hand, removed David Carr and his unit from the game at halftime.

In the second half, Kris Brown finally put the Texans on the map by kicking a 50-yard field goal.

In the fourth quarter, the Dallas cowboys erupted for two scores which would help them win the game. They got things going when rookie Kevin Burnett sacked backup quarterback Tony Banks which forced a fumble in Houston territory. Jay Ratliff, another rookie, recovered, leading to a 1-yard touchdown run by rookie Tyson Thompson that made it 14-3.

Houston's Reggie Swinton, a former Cowboy, returned the ensuing kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown, making the score 14-9 Dallas when the Texans failed on their 2-point attempt.

Dallas backup Tony Romo, in relief of Bledsoe, drove 66 yards in 10 plays for the final score, a 2-yard pass to Quincy Morgan.
