Rhodes gets $20 million guaranteed from Jets

Jets S Kerry Rhodes signed a five-year, $33.5 million contract extension with the club Wednesday, with $20 million of that guaranteed. Rhodes was a fourth-round selection out of Louisville in 2005. He has started 48 consecutive games for the Jets, and had 67 tackles and five interceptions last season.

Commentary: Rhodes is a testament to why the best players in the NFL don't have to be drafted in the first round. Even with the influx of talent and high draft choices spent on both safety positions in recent years by several other teams in the NFL, Rhodes locked down an All-Pro selection as a free safety in 2006, and put up comparable numberrs as a strong safety in 2005 and 2007.
