The Detroit Lions suffered a very big scare tonight against the St. Louis Rams. CB Terry Fair was immobilized and carried off the field on a stretcher after taking a knee to his helmet. While being carted out, Fair gave a thumbs up to let the fans know that he was ok. The Rams ended up beating the Lions 37-13.

The Detroit Lions offense stumbled out of the gate. Joey Harrington looked incredibly ineffective, missing several open targets and being taken down for three sacks…and that was just in the first quarter! So after two solid preseason outings in a row, Harrington's sloppy play brought back the boo birds at Ford Field. Harrington looked like he might salvage a touchdown drive late in the second quarter, but the drive stalled at the Rams' five yard line. He ended up with 106 yards on just 9 of 18 passes. His backup Jeff Garcia was equally putrid. He was 2 of 9 for 34 yards.

The St. Louis Rams were firing on all cylinders offensively. Second year man Steven Jackson showed why the coaching staff promoted him to the starting role. He gashed the Lions for nearly 100 yards in the first quarter alone. He ended up with 108 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. Marc Bulger was extremely accurate and spread the ball around to a myriad of receivers. He ended up 11 of 14 with 167 yards one touchdown and one interception. Defensively, the Rams had trouble stopping the run but put a lot of pressure on Joey Harrington. They netted four total sacks.
