Chargers LB Cooper suspended

Chargers LB Stephen Cooper will miss the first four games of the 2008 season after testing positive for a banned substance, the NFL reported Tuesday.

His suspension begins Saturday, Aug. 30, and ends Monday, Sept. 29, one day after the Chargers face AFC West rival Oakland in Week 4. Cooper can still participate in the team's offseason workout program, and can play in all preseason games. Cooper issued a statement through the team: “I regret that I mistakenly took a stimulant that I did not realize at the time was banned by the NFL."
