Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher will treat the final pre-season game as he usually has in his career; very carefully. Even though he hasn't been pleased with the way the offense has looked, he'd rather not risk any more injuries. Willie Parker has been named opening day running back due to Jerome Bettis' calf injury. Parker will not play at all on Thursday night as the Steelers can't afford to see him get hurt, especially since Deuce Staley is also on the shelf with a knee injury. Pittsburgh opens the regular season on Sept 11th when they host the Tennessee Titans.

For the Carolina Panthers, coach John Fox has also indicated that he doesn't plan to use his starters much in this game either. Fox is satisfied with the amount of work his regulars have seen, especially in last week's 23-20 win over the Cleveland Browns. This game will mark the return of running back Stephen Davis, as he will see light duty coming off knee surgery. All-Pro defensive end Julius Peppers will rest his sore ankle and not suit up this week.
