Jake Delhomme was close to perfect but the Pittsburgh Steelers ended up edging the Carolina Panthers 21-17.

Delhomme was 4 of 4 for 46 yards and a touchdown. He marched his Carolina Panthers down the field on their first possession and found the ageless Ricky Proehl for a 1-yard touchdown strike. Steven Davis saw his first game action since undergoing knee surgery. He carried the ball five times for 17 yards.

For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger was once again unimpressive. He could be headed for a sophomore slump. Roethlisberger ended up 2 of 6 for 24 yards. His backup Charlie Batch played much better. He was 16 of 29 for 182 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
