The New York Giants rode the play of both second-year quarterback Eli Manning and their special teams unit as they easily handled the Arizona Cardinals 42-19 in their home opener.

Manning showed little signs of the elbow injury that has plagued him throughout the preseason. He completed 10 of 23 passes for 172 yards, with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Offseason acquisition Plaxico Burress proved to be a great target for Manning. Burress had 5 catches for 76 yards and a TD. Running back Tiki Barber also played a big role in the New York Giants' offensive scheme. Barber gained 62 yards on the ground and finished the day with 122 all-purpose yards.

Arizona QB Kurt Warner's return to New York didn't go as he had hoped. In his first start in a Cardinals uniform, Warner was 27-of-46 for 264 yards and one TD. His effectiveness was limited by the Arizona Cardinals' inability to get any kind of rushing game established. In fact, Warner was the Cards' leading rusher on the day with 11 yards. Running back Marcel Shipp gained just 10 yards on 7 carries, J.J. Arrington was held to just 5 yards on 8 carries, and the Cardinals as a team were held to 31 total rushing yards.

The Giants' special teams helped the caused by scoring two touchdowns. One came on a 95-yard kickoff return from Willie Ponder and the other came on a 52-yard punt return from Chad Morton.
