Talk about an up and down weekend. Plenty of upsets plus a heart warming win for the New Orleans Saints. Let's take a look at went on in week 1 of the NFL regular season...

The Best Games:

Philadelphia 10 at Atlanta 14
What a game this was. Sloppy yet exciting play by the quarterbacks but both defenses tackled exceptionally well. Just like last year's Super Bowl, this game ended with Donovan Mcnabb's inability to run the two minute drill.

New Orleans 23 at Carolina 20
With the world on their shoulders, the New Orleans Saint's provided a stunning win over the Panthers. Saint's kicker Carney came in to win the game on an emotional last minute field goal. Is there anyone who doesn't want to see this team win?

The Worst Games:
New York Jets 7 at Kansas City 27
Is Kansas City's new defense really this good? Chad Pennington didn't look right from the start. It'll take another few weeks before we figure out just how good KC's defense is.

Houston 7 at Buffalo 22
Buffalo should get used to this smothering defense. Well everyone is complaining about Joey Harrington in Detroit, what about David Carr?

Tennessee 7 at Pittsburgh 34
Ben Roethlisberger didn't miss a beat, throwing for 218 yards and 2 touch downs with no interceptions. When your third string running back rushes for over 150 yards, you know you're a running team.

Arizona 19 at New York Giants 42
Eli Manning wasn't fantastic, but the Giants' special teams were. They did more than enough to dominate the game, but it's unlikely they can do that week in and week out.

Chicago 7 at Washington 9
I like a defensive struggle as much as the next guy, but a nine to seven win is a little boring, even for my tastes. Washington's defense looked good, which they'll need because their offense wasn't.

Upsets

Seattle 14 at Jacksonville 26
The Jaguars' defense played great, and the offense is better than last year. This team is poised to take a run at the NFL playoffs.

Tampa Bay 24 at Minnesota 13
There is a sudden silence from all of the people who said there wouldn't be any drop off in production once Randy Moss left. There's also a sudden silence from the rest of the NFC South. Tampa Bay has an offense.

St. Louis 25 at San Francisco 28
No one outside of the 49ers saw this coming. Mike Nolan has already equaled half the wins that the 49ers collected last year.

Denver 10 at Miami 34
Miami looked surprisingly good. Jake Plummer looked worse than expected. Maybe it's true, maybe the Broncos aren't a Super Bowl-caliber team without Elway.

Green Bay 3 at Detroit 17
Even though most people thought Green Bay would take a step backwards, getting KO'd by Detroit is a bit much.

The Rest

Oakland 20 at New England 30
The Patriots beat the Raiders, not missing a beat despite the loss of both offensive and defensive coordinators.

Cincinnati 27 at Cleveland 13
Carson Palmer threw for 280 yards, and the rest of the Bengals offense played good. A rough debut for former Patriot's defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

Dallas 28 at San Diego 24
In a game that matched former Bucs receivers (Keenan McCardell for San Diego and Keyshawn Johnson for Dallas) each had two touchdown grabs, but in the end Me-shawn came up victorious.

Indianapolis 24 at Baltimore 7
The classic "immovable object vs. unstoppable force". Only, the unstoppable force kept going, and in another surprising turn of events, Indy has a defense. Enough to take down the Patriots?

NFL Injury Report:
-Green Bay WR Javon Walker is sidelined indefinitely after an injury believed to be a torn ACL
-DT Kris Jenkins of the Panthers is out for the season after sustaining an injury against the Saints
-The Chiefs saw starters Patrick Surtain, Tony Richardson, Ryan Sims and Willie Roaf go down against the Jets
-Redskins QB Patrick Ramsey sprained his neck after a vicious hit by Lance Briggs
-Ravens QB Kyle Boller hyper-extended his right toe
-49ers receiver Johnnie Morton received a concussion against the Rams
-Bills T Chris Villarrial re-injured his right ankle
-Saints TE Ernie Conwell suffered a concussion and a broken jaw against the Panthers
-The Browns lost a string of players, including CB Leigh Bodden, LB Matt Stewart, and TE Steve Heiden
-The Bengals lost LB Marcus Wilkins and RB Kenny Watson
-Cardinals LB James Darling left the game in the third quarter with a knee bruise and did not return
-Giants RT Kareem McKenzie went to the locker room with an ankle sprain in the second quarter and did not return

Games to look forward to:

San Francisco at Philadelphia:
This game should be a good indication of how much 49er fans can expect from their team this season. Can this team compete in the weak NFC? Even if they can, beating the Eagles is a bit of a stretch.

Jacksonville at Indianapolis
This will give the Jaguars and the Colts a very good indication of where they stack up in the AFC playoff picture. Both teams won their first games by a fairly wide margin, and both were playing supposed playoff teams (the Seahawks and the Ravens, respectively).

New England at Carolina
A re-match of the 2004 Super Bowl. Many people (not including myself) are picking this to be the Super Bowl match-up for 2006. We'll have a good idea how accurate that is after this game.

Kansas City at Oakland
Combine two of the NFL's most explosive offenses, and division rivals, and you've got one hell of a game.

That's all for the week 1 NFL wrap up, check back next Tuesday for the Week Two NFL Re-Cap.
