Chad Pennington and John Abraham led their respective units to a 17-7 over the division rival Miami Dolphins. Pennington threw two touchdown passes and Abraham collected a sack and provided seemingly unending pressure on Dolphins QB Gus Frerotte.

Pennington seems to have quieted the critics at least for a little while with his performance this afternoon. Although his throws seemed to lack strength at times, he was very efficient and was able to move the ball well. He ended the day throwing for 190 yards with two touchdowns on 19 of 30 passing. RB Curtis Martin started the day off hot, and had over 50 yards at halftime. However, in the second half the Miami Dolphins defense clamped down and held the Jets running back in check. Martin ended the game with 72 yards on 31 carries.

The Miami Dolphins offense could not put enough points on the board to keep the game in contention. Gus Frerotte had a valiant effort. He dealt with pressure the entire game and had relatively little run support but was still able to move the ball and avoid costly turnovers. However, on the Dolphins' last real offensive possession he was intercepted by David Barrett. That misfire essentially ended the game.

Frerotte's main target on the day was TE Randy McMichael. He snagged eight catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. RB Ronnie Brown added 35 yards on 12 carries. The Miami Dolphins defense was anchored by Junior Seau and Zach Thomas. Both recorded 10 tackles. Seau also had a sack.
