The Denver Broncos (2-1) shut down the high-powered offense of the Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) en route to a 30-10 victory at home.

The Broncos were all over the Chiefs right from the start. They marched 68 yards on 8 plays in their opening drive, and capped it off with a 30-yard Jason Elam field goal. Denver never looked back from there. On their next possession, running back Mike Anderson found a gaping hole in the line and took off for a 44-yard touchdown. Anderson, who was coming back from a rib injury he sustained back in Week One, led all rushers with 98 yards on 20 carries. Jake Plummer put in a solid performance, going 13-of-18 for 152 yards and one TD. Plummer also added a rushing touchdown on fourth-and-goal to put the Denver Broncos up 27-3. Wide receiver Rod Smith caught 7 passes for 80 yards, which put him over the 10,000 yard plateau for his career. One of his catches tonight was a 12-yard score in the first quarter.

With guys like Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson in the backfield, the Kansas City Chiefs' offense obviously revolves around its running game. Holmes and Johnson were an unstoppable 1-2 combo in the first two games of the season, but the Denver defense had their numbers tonight. Holmes gained just 61 yards on 14 carries, while Johnson's 13 yards in 8 attempts were a non-factor in the game. More importantly, neither of these backs made it anywhere near the end zone. Trent Green threw for 221 yards and a touchdown, but most of that came late in the game when Denver was playing back in zone coverage. The Chiefs looked out of synch all night and committed 13 penalties for a costly 118 yards.

Next up: The Denver Broncos will visit Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars, while the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium.
