On Sunday afternoon in Tampa, it appeared the hometown Buccaneers were about to fall from the ranks of the undefeated, but an apparent touchdown pass from Detroit Lions quarterback to tight end Marcus Pollard with 13 seconds to go was reversed by instant replay and they held on to a 17-13 win.

With rookie sensation runner Cadillac Williams sidelined early on with an injured hamstring, quarterback Brian Griese and the rest of the offense picked up the stagnant offense. He threw an 80-yard scoring pass to Joey Galloway at the beginning of the second half and the stingy Bucs defense made it stand up late.

After the Detroit Lions touchdown was negate, they still had two more opportunities to win the game, when wide receiver Mike Williams leaped and came down with a Harrington pass, but came down out of bounds. Harrington next pass on the last play of the game flew incomplete over the head of receiver Charles Rogers. The often maligned quarterback finished 15-of-27 for 137 yards.

For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams' injury broke a streak of three consecutive 100-yard rushing performances. He only gained 13 yards on 11 carries before being forced to leave the game. Griese went 22-of-39 for 302 and two touchdowns, but was picked off three times.
