The New York Jets, a team looking to rebound after a hall of fame QB leaving after one year. The New York Giants, a playoff bound team who wants redemption after losing in the playoffs last season. Each team is building and as training camp approaches, undecided New York football fans have one choice. Will they root for the Jets or Giants?

QB: Mark Sanchez/Kellen Clemens versus Eli Manning?
Despite only playing in college thus far, Mark Sanchez has a very good reputation of being a hard worker. Succeeding John David Booty at USC, Mark won a major bowl game last season. He also led USC to over ten wins and was picked number five overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jets. Based on the hype over the last few months, you might go with Mark Sanchez. Though just don’t forget about Kellen Clemens.

Despite Mark Sanchez being picked in the first round, you still have another QB on the Jets offense. Kellen Clemens was the backup last season to Brett Favre and because it was “Brett Favre,” he did not get much playing time. In 2007, Clemens was the starter while Chad Pennington was injured. He’s been with the Jets for a long time and the team might have a sense of loyalty to him. Then again, the new head coach Rex Ryan has said that the QB’s will compete. There also is a Super bowl winning Quarterback on the other New York Team.

Eli Manning, Son of Archie and brother of future hall of famer Peyton is an established NFL QB. He won the Super Bowl in the 2007 season with the Giants against the New England Patriots. His game is based on consistency and he improves every year as a Quarterback. The one weakness for Eli is he will throw a few more picks then needed, but he throws enough TDS to keep it even. Based on NFL careers you would probably want to go with Eli over the QB combo of the Jets.

RB: Thomas Jones versus Brandon Jacobs

Thomas Jones is an elite running back in the NFL. He rushed for over 1300 and had over 10 TDs last season. The former Chicago Bear is the only running besides Walter Peyton to rush for over 1300 yards in a season. Jones has rushed for over 1000 yards in each of the last four seasons. He is a force to be reckoned with on the football field. Jones can be very consistent, getting four or five yards per carry and even receive the ball via the air every once and a while. Brandon Jacobs can also be consistent, and if anything explosive on the football field.

Brandon Jacobs, the replacement of future hall of famer Tiki Barber has shown his skills over the last two seasons. Jacobs in his first full season as the starting running back won a super bowl ring and rushed for over 1000 yards, proving his worth to both his team and the rest of the league. In 2008, Brandon rushed for over 1000 yards again and had 15 total touchdowns. Going into 2009, each running back is looking to help his team win. If you were to choose between these two based on skills, you would have to go with Thomas Jones purely based on his history. Both running backs are in the elite class in the NFL, so either way, you’d be a winner.

Wide Receivers: (Both teams are in need!)

The Jets and Giants are both in need of wide receivers. The Jets lost their star WR Lavernes Coles to the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency. The Giants lost their star WR in Plaxico Burress because of legal troubles. Each team needs to improve their Wide Receiving core. Maybe if one of the teams adds a wide receiver like Brandon Marshall they can get better. The Giants have an edge in wide receiving due to drafting some very powerful ones in the draft. To be a good wide receiver you need explosive speed, which the Giants have. The Jets are basically limping on one foot with their wide receivers, so give the edge to the Giants.

Defense: The name of the game

Defense can win you a championship or you can lose with it. Especially in the NFL you need defense to win games. Sometimes coming up with a sack in the fourth quarter is more important than a touchdown in the first quarter. The Jets had a powerful defense last season and they got better this offseason. Acquiring Lito Sheppard in a trade from the Eagles gives veteran leadership to the Jets. The Giants will continue to provide the same hard core sack defense that they been providing for years. Look for Justin Tuck to get more than ten sacks this season, just like last season. The edge should go to the Giants because of the experience the players have in pressure packed situations.

Head Coaches: Rex Ryan versus Tom Coughlin:

Rex Ryan comes from a defensive minded Baltimore Ravens time and he will surely bring that to the Jets, but he is a first time head coach. Tom Coughlin has a super bowl ring as a head coach and has playoff experience with both the Giants and the Jaguars. Rex Ryan will have to prove himself this upcoming season to the New York fans, media and players.

Who should you root for as a Football Fan, Jets or Giants? If you want an up and coming team that can give you enthusiasm and energy, go for the Jets. If you want a playoff bound team that has the will to win and the players to back up that will then go for the Giants. Either way it is the decision of you the fan. The fans are the life of a football team. Without the fans there is no football. It is up to you to choose….
