This Sunday all the NFL fans will be sitting in their favorite recliner, couch, maybe a bar to watch Buffalo Bills vs Tennessee Titans. Yeah after the first two or three series, first stringers will leave the field, and the backups get a chance to show America what they got.

What I love about preseason football is that it's an audition to see who can make the team, who gets cut, or in a middle of the road scenario, make the practice squad. Some say that the preseason schedule is too long and needs to be cut by a week or two. I've heard rumors that If you cut the preseason schedule to half, then you can add two more weeks to the regular season schedule. Some fear that too many preseason football games would actually hurt starters to a season ending injuries, well I got news for you; two players in the NFL have already had season ending injuries while in training camp, and the kickoff in Canton Ohio haven't started yet.

The reason for preseason is it may not be entertaining to watch, but it does give coaches a chance to see which players would be suited for certain situations, who can be backups for starters, and give those a chance to at least make special teams. For those who don't like preseason football, you can always turn to baseball and watch it till September.

I heard the old saying about preseason being that it don't count, only in regular season does it count; that might be true, but to some of those players that are either journeymen, rookies, or looking for a team to play on, this is their moment to shine, and they won't get to shine again unless a starter gets injured. Noticable two men come to mind; When Drew Bledsoe was with the Patriots, he was injured, and a rookie named Tom Brady came in to replace the injured Drew Bledsoe. Well Tom Brady took the Patriots to the playoffs, and when Drew recovered in time for the Super Bowl, fans were wondering should they stay with Brady, or let Bledsoe play? Well they let Tom Brady start in the Super Bowl, and as a result won their first of three Super Bowls by beating the St. Louis Rams.

Results; Tom Brady stayed in New England, Drew Bledsoe played for Dallas. Last year Tom Brady got hurt in week one, and Matt Cassell stepped in. Even though the Patriots didn't go into the playoffs, Matt Cassell did get noticed by Coach McDaniels (now head coach of Denver) and Kansas City Chiefs. Tom Brady stayed in New England, and Matt Cassell get to start in Kansas City.

This Sunday I'll sit back and relax, and watch Buffalo against Tennessee just to see If Terrell Owens can play well for the Bills, and maybe see If Vince Young can wrestle the starting quarterback job away from Kerry Collins.
