Jaguars hold on to defeat the Bengals 23-20

Darryl Smith knocked the ball out of Carson Palmer's hand and Akin Ayodele recovered the subsequent fumble to help the Jacksonville Jaguars hold on against the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. Jacksonville made some key stops late in the fourth quarter and benefited from a big performance from Fred Taylor. The Bengals fell from the ranks of the unbeaten while the Jaguars improved their record to 3-2.

Carson Palmer had another Pro Bowl caliber performance for the Cincinnati Bengals. He threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns on 22 of 33 passing. Rudi Johnson chipped in with 76 yards on 18 carries. Chad Johnson hauled in a touchdown pass in the second quarter, but was relatively ineffective, catching only five passes for 52 yards.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were paced by Fred Taylor's 132 yard performance. Byron Leftwich was fairly inaccurate but did throw two touchdowns. He ended up 10 of 24 for 161 yards.
