With an absolutely fantastic week 2 in the books, the power rankings have changed. A LOT. Many teams made big jumps both up and down the rankings.

The biggest leap of all belongs to the Baltimore Ravens. The men in purple find themselves sitting atop the NFL power rankings for the first time this season, catapulting from the 9th spot with their impressive 31-26 victory at Qualcomm Stadium. The biggest improvement in the Ravens play is obviously on the offensive side. They have shown through these first two weeks of the season that they have found the intensity on offense to match that of Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and the rest of Baltimore’s ridiculous defense. Baltimore fans are truly going wacko for Flacco, The second year QB is looking very crisp to start this year in leading the Ravens to 69 points in the first two games. Flacco has thrown for 497 yards and 5 touchdowns. Also giving Flacco some well deserved support are the running backs. Ray Rice is averaging 5.3 yards a carry with Willis McGahee not far behind with 4.9. With Flacco making precision throws and Ray Lewis making statements like his late game hit on the Chargers Darren Sproles, putting a stop to any hopes of a San Diego comeback in a very closely contested game, it is no wonder why the Ravens find themselves atop the power rankings this week.

The biggest drop in the rankings fell on the Seattle Seahawks plummeting from the top 15 to number 22. They have not had a terrible start to the season, but with the loss of three time Pro Bowl QB Matt Hasselbeck to a rib injury their stock falls insanely fast. With Hasselbeck out the weight of the team falls on the shoulders of QB Tavaris Jackson and RB Julius Jones, neither player has proven if they can carry that load. As long as Hasselbeck is out look for the Seahawks to remain a non threat. Not that they were before losing their QB.

Other teams making big moves in the rankings include the Titans with their disappointing 0-2 start after their 13-3 season, dropping from 9 to 16. And the New York Jets (who could have seen that one coming). Rex Ryan sent a message to the AFC East and the entire league with their beat down of the Patriots. Ryan’s Jets blitzed their way into the top 10 at the 8 spot, and the Saints joined them there for the first time as well at number 7, moving up 5 spots.
