Just a little over 2 minutes to go in the New England/Indianapolis game, Coach Billicheck went for it on 4th & 2. Now that wouldn't be a bad stragery to go for with 2:02 in the game except the problem is the ball was at their own 28 yard line, and not the Colt's 28 yard line. Apparently as a result of that decision, they failed, and The Colts had plenty of time to score the winning touchdown with 13 seconds to go in the game.
Now in the Miami/Carolina game, Miami went for it at the Panthers' s 32 yard line instead of kicking a field goal to make it a two score game. Now maybe Miami's kicker couldn't kick a 49 or 50 yard field goal, but going for it with 44 seconds to go in the game was a smart move, even though Carolina threw two big passes to get within the 25 yard line, and nearly tied the game on the last hail mary play as time expired.
Difference is that Miami knew that Carolina had no timeouts, and would have to rush like a demon to force overtime; while The Colts captialize on Coach Billicheck's arrogance and no respect for the Colt's defense, which cost the Patriots the game, and stayed undefeated. Some would say that If the gamble had work, then the Patroits would simply run out the clock, and give the Colts their first lost of the season. I myself think that punting the ball on 4th & 2 would have worked better because then the Colts would have somewhere between 75 to 80 yards to work on with under 2 minutes to go. Maybe the Colts would have won, maybe the Patroits's defense would have held off the Colts's offense, we'll never know now since Coach Billicheck roll the dice, and crapped out.
