Looks like we saved a little face. Both predictions came through and the Super Bowl is a dream Super Bowl and could go down in history as one of the greatest ever. I feel like a kid at Christmas when I think about the game this Sunday. Giddy, almost. How fortunate we are as fans to be able to catch two of the greatest players at their position, in the pinnacle of their ability, with amazing teams around them, meeting in the Super Bowl. What’s my prediction? Who will win the Super Bowl?...Whoever has the ball last. These teams are so well matched not only will it be a scoring frenzy, I truly believe it will be won by the team that has the ball last. I could sit here and breakdown every angle, every matchup but you can get that from anywhere and no doubt you’ll hear it the rest of the week leading up. What I love about this game is I am happy if either team wins. Deep down I’m a Colts fan but already having a championship and having what looks like several more amazing years, should the Saints win, I would still be elated. Not just for the incredible things the team has done but for the city itself and what it would mean for the people residing there. I can’t see that as being a disappointment for anyone. A game like this allows us to sit back from our fan based bias and enjoy the sport itself and what it means to our community and country.
I think it is so wonderful that the NFL is trying to globalize football. It’s such a wonderful thing that brings out the best in everyone, even some of the more questionable characters. I wish that we could play football games in lieu of war. You want to have nukes? We don’t want you to have nukes. Okay, let’s put our best guys in the field against your best guys and see who wins.
In antiquity, oftentimes, conflicts were resolved in this manner. The best warrior from each army would fight and the winner would decide which army would keep the field. The ancient Greeks used to do something similar. There was so much infighting and loss of life that instead of conducting pitched battles of annihilation, each side would hand pick their best 100 warriors and they would have it out to decide the dispute. Sure people lost their lives but no one’s country was invaded or city-state exterminated. It would be some cut throat, heads-flying, ass-kicking football if we were not just competing for money or fame but for something real, a real issue. Of course I like that because USA would run things for the next century. American Samoa would get on the Security Council. That way we could still try to police the world but not kill anybody. You like the idea, write your congressman. I don’t think enough people do that anyway. If more people would write, not just to complain but for any reason, I think politicians would be more accountable. They would feel like someone was watching them, keeping an eye on them. Good bye everybody. Thanks for reading. Have a fun and safe time watching the game and you can be sure you’ll be hearing from me in August. Heck, I might do something about the draft next month.
