The Philadelphia Eagles were able to pull out a tough inter-conference 20-17 win at home over the San Diego Chargers this afternoon. The Eagles were able to mount a late comeback on special teams and defense after being down 17-10 in the fourth quarter.

Philly jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 4 yard pass from Donovan McNabb to Terrell Owens. The flamboyant T.O. celebrated in style with a wine-server routine using his hand towel to present the football as a bottle wine. Keenan McCardell made the score 10-7 after halftime with a 19 yard TD reception from Drew Brees. In the fourth quarter, the Chargers took the lead 14-10 when Brees connected with TE Antonio Gates on an 8 yard pass. The Eagles were down 17-13 when Quintin Mikell blocked a Nate Kaeding attempt from 40 yards out. Matt Ware returned the ball 65 yards for the winning score with 2:25 left. A late comeback attempt by San Diego was snuffed when Sheldon Brown stripped Reche Caldwell of the rock deep in Eagles territory.

QB Donovan McNabb led Philadelphia attack with a club-record 35 completions on 54 attempts for 1 TD and 2 INTs. The Eagles won despite not being able to provide a consistent ground game. Brian Westbrook led all Philly runners with 25 yards on 10 attempts. Westbrook also added 10 receptions for 75 yards, while LJ Smith hauled in 6 receptions for 63 yards.

The Chargers also struggled running the ball on this afternoon. LaDainian Tomlinson finished with 7 yards on 17 carries, ending his 18-game TD streak tied with Hall of Famer Lenny Moore. Drew Brees was 23 of 40 with 299 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. McCardell caught 5 balls for 78 yards and Caldwell had 4-97.

San Diego Chargers (3-4) face the Kansas City Chargers at home next week while the Philadelphia Eagers (4-2) travel to the surging Denver Broncos.
