NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced 4 nationally televised games that will highlight the 2005 Kickoff Weekend. The opening weekend gets under way with Randy Moss and the Oakland Raiders visiting the New England Patriots on September 8.

This should an interesting game matching the participants of the now-infamous 2001 AFC Divisional Playoff game in Foxboro. That game will always be known for the controversial "Tuck Rule" play.

In a tradition the league incorporated in 2004, the Super Bowl champion hosts the Thursday night season opener the following season.

The season's first weekend also has the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons meet in a rematch of the 2004 NFC Championship game on Monday Night Football. In the other nationally televised games, the Dallas Cowboys debut against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon while the Indianapolis Colts visit the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.
