The National Football League met the deadline for delivering documents relating to its drug-testing results and policy to a committee of the US Congress.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league provided all of the information requested. The documents included the number of drug tests administered each year, the number of positive results and which substances are tested. Names of players were kept confidential.

Similar requests were made to the NBA, NHL and other major sports organizations. A deadline of April 12 was set for receipt of documentation for current and past drug-testing policies. The NCAA was also expected to receive a similar request.

The football league has performed random testing for steroids for the past 15 years. First-time offenders are suspended at least 4 games. 44 players have been suspended for using the performance-enhancing substances.
