A committee in the House of Representatives will be investigating steroid use in football. The panel has invited specific NFL officials and union representatives to testify at a hearing on April 27.

Scheduled to attend are NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Gene Upshaw (executive director of the NFL Players Association), and Harold Henderson (NFL executive vice president for labor relations.)

Representatives sent a letter to the league office asking for the number of drug tests performed each year, the number of positive results and which substances are tested. It did not ask for the names of players who tested positive. The NFL sent its reponse earlier this month.

Similar letters were sent to the NBA, the NHL and other major sports organizations.
