The NFL upheld the $75,000 fine levelled against Denver Broncos safety John Lynch. He was hit with the penalty following an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark in the last game of the regular season.

NFL spokesman Steve Alic announced the league had denied Lynch's appeal to reduce the fine. The punishment was issued a few days after the game against the Colts.

Lynch disagreed with the amount of the fine when it was assessed. The NFL said the fine for the hit on Clark was larger than usual because it was Lynch's fourth fine for improper use of his helmet. Lynch has been fined $7,500 for 3 separate instances of leading with his helmet since 2001.
