The defending champion New England Patriots outlasted the Cincinnati Bengals 23 to 13. The Bengals got on the board first with a field goal after the two teams played a scoreless first quarter. The Patriots then took control and cruised to victory with their backups.

Tom Brady took the night off, so Rohan Davey took his place. He was 4 for 7 with 42 yards and an interception. Corey Dillon looked solid against his former team picking up 26 yards on four carries.

Jon Kitna started ahead of Carson Palmer, though Palmer is expected to be the starter when the regular season commences. Kitna went 4 of 8 for 47 yards while Palmer went 4 of 11 for 37 yards and an INT. Rudi Johnson came to play, collecting 40 yards on six carries.

Both the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals starting offenses looked sluggish.
