The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Miami Dolphins 27 to 3. However, the starting units for both teams were evenly matched. Midway through the second quarter the score was 7 to 3 in Jacksonville's favor with their lone touchdown coming on a punt return by David Allen.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will probably spend a lot of time working on protection schemes. The starting offensive line allowed the Miami Dolphins to collect multiple sacks. Rookie wide receiver Matt Jones came on in the later stages of the game and even scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Receiver Ernest Wilford also snared a touchdown grab off a tipped ball.

The Miami Dolphins looked solid on defense. They created a lot of pressure and were good in coverage. Rookie Travis Daniels looked like a veteran, even matching up with All Pro Jimmy Smith on a deep route and applying textbook coverage. Ricky Williams was also extremely impressive. He reeled off several long runs and was cutting and accelerating like the Ricky Williams of old. He ended up 39 yards on 6 carries. Chris Chambers may have made the play of the game. He was hit hard trying to make a reception, but ended up catching his own tipped ball even though he was already lying on the ground after the initial collision.
