After getting off to a shaky start early on, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer looked more like the future franchise QB Cincinnati envisioned when they took him first overall in the 2003 NFL Draft. Palmer threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter, a 45-yard strike to Kelly Washington and a short pass to Chris Perry from 13 yards out.

Former starter John Kitna came on in the 3rd quarter and connected with WR Kevin Walter on a 22-yard pass to put the Bengals up 21-10 and the defense sacked Washington QBs three times and forced 3 turnovers to put the game away. Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Tory James intercepted Patrick Ramsey twice to end scoring threats by Washington.

The Washington Redskins were hoping to find better chemistry on offense, and actually out gained the Bengals 392 yards to 377. But it was their defense as usual that sparked the team early on. Highly touted rookie corner Carlos Rogers intercepted Palmer and ran it back 30 yards down to the Cincinnati 25 yard line. On the very next play, Redskins starting quarterback Patrick Ramsey hit James Thrash for a touchdown. But it was downhill for Ramsey and the Washington Redskins after that, as they squandered opportunities with turnovers and penalties.
