After a thorough medical investigation, it has been determined that the recent death of the San Francisco 49ers lineman Thomas Herrion was a result of heart disease. Herrion's death came as a shock to many when he collapsed suddenly after a preseason game in Denver on August 20th.

In a news release by the city health department, it was officially disclosed that Herrion suffered from a severe case of ischemic heart disease. Herrion's heart was slightly enlarged and his right coronary artery was narrowed. This condition resulted in less blood and oxygen flowing to the heart muscle and ultimately led to his death. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard was only 23 years old.

The only chemical present in Herrion's blood and urine after his death was Atrophine, a drug administered by medical personnel in an attempt to revive him.

Herrion grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and after playing football in high school, he went on to play for Kilgore Junior College and eventually the University of Utah. In his pro career, Herrion played in Europe briefly, before becoming a part of the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad in 2004. In 2005, he was released and picked up by San Francisco. At the time of his death, he was trying to earn a spot on the San Francisco 49ers final roster.
