San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has been nothing short of reliable this season, putting to bed any worries that his 2006 campaign was a fluke. Does that mean he will have success this weekend against a physical Eagles defense that is ticked off after giving up 145 yards to Redskins RB Clinton Portis? Not likely.

Commentary: Gore has rushed for 423 yards in five games and landed in the end zone three times on those runs. But none of the defenses he has played are nearly as talented as the one the Eagles will run out on Sunday. Even after last week's disaster versus Washington, the Eagles only give up 83.6 yards a game on the ground, ranking them eighth in the league. They also have a lot to prove this week if they plan to stay in the NFC East divisional title race.

Gore is one of the most talented backs in the game. Philly will recognize that and key on him all day, forcing quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan to win the game for San Francisco. Things could get ugly for Gore and the 49ers in a hurry.

Fan Pulse: Niners Nation is having a hard time coming up with something bad to say about Gore. http://www.49ersparadise.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=324de2cbe16c9500ce9cf15122002f46&topic=5577.msg191229;topicseen#new.

Fantasy Football Commentary: Will Gore go for 100-plus yards and a touchdown? Doubtful. But he is easily a top five fantasy back and a must-start. Wideout Isaac Bruce may get some love if Gore is shut down.

Injury Watch: Strong safety Michael Lewis didn't participate in Wednesday's practice with an elbow injury.
